Built Kindle Sleeve Review:

Considering my track record with dropping electronics, after purchasing a Kindle, the first accessory I got was the BUILT neoprene Kindle Fire Slim Sleeve. The sleeve is made of neoprene – the same material wetsuits are made of – and is padded on all sides, except with a bit less padding on the top. The top of the sleeve is not closed, however there is extra neoprene material that continues above the top of the Kindle acting as a bumper, and giving it a bit more protection even though it is open.

The bottom of the sleeve contains 3 subtle notches to help the user to grip the sleeve while pulling the Kindle out. The sleeve itself is extremely lightweight and tight fitting on the Kindle Fire. The interior of the BUILT Kindle sleeve is made of a soft and fuzzy material to prevent scratches. When pulling the Kindle in and out of the sleeve, the interior acts a bit like a screen cleaner by wiping the fingerprints and smudges off of the Kindle.

Pros:

Cons:

The fact that the top of the sleeve is open is both good and bad. The good part is that the sleeve becomes lighter and even simpler to use. All you need to do is slip the Kindle into the sleeve and pull it out when needed. The downside to the BUILT sleeve not having a zipper is that the Kindle could potentially fall out of the sleeve when flipped upside down, and the top isn’t as padded as it could be with a zipper.

Since the sleeve is tight fitting on the Kindle, the Kindle won’t fall out of the sleeve unless you flip it over and hang it upside down or try to shake it out of the sleeve. In my opinion, not having a zipper isn’t a major issue and doesn’t really make much of a difference to the sleeve.

The Verdict:

The BUILT Kindle sleeve is a simple yet effective solution for those wanting more protection for their Kindle.

The sleeve costs retail $24.99, however on Amazon.com, the prices are usually much lower. The sleeve in ‘Black’ costs around $9, while the other fancier patterns such as ‘Vine’, ‘Scatter Dot’ and ‘Lush Flower’ tend to cost between $12 and $24 on Amazon.com. The price of the BUILT sleeves are average compared similar sleeves on the market.
