The Grab n Go Band is one of those products that makes you ask yourself, “Why didn’t I think of this?”
When the Grab n Go Band contacted me about trying out their band, I jumped on the opportunity. So far, I’ve used the band for a couple of weeks now to hold my NYC metro card, some cash and my YMCA card.
The band is simply a rubber band that is meant to turn your smartphone into a wallet. The Grab n Go Band wraps around the back of your phone, regardless of its model (iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, Samsung Galaxy, etc.) or case. Since the band is stretchy, it can accommodate to several different phone sizes.
You can then secure your cards, cash, and other random things you would put in your wallet between the Grab n Go Band and your phone.
Pros:
- Simple and easy to use
- Lightweight and easy to travel with
- Versatile, works with most smartphones regardless of case type
- Band seems strong and hasn’t broken
- Grab n Go Band doesn’t get in the way of your phone’s screen
- Inexpensive, $5 for 5 bands
The Grab n Go Band was designed to wrap around the phone but not interfere with the phone’s screen. (You might have to adjust the band a bit first.)
Since the Grab n Go Band is solely a rubber band, it’s extremely lightweight and easier to travel with than a wallet.
Cons:
- Contents in the Grab n Go band are exposed
- Can be difficult to access items
- Cash and some smaller items could fall out
- The design of the Grab n Go Band still feels a bit unrefined
The Grab n Go Band still feels like a ‘homemade’ product since the design feels a bit unrefined and almost too simple. The band feels like a modified rubber band that you could possible make at home.
Unlike with a traditional wallet, items in the Grab n Go band can be seen. When using my phone in the subway, the cards and cash attached to the back of my iPhone were completely visible. Though this wasn’t an issue for me, it could become an issue if you didn’t want others around you to know what was inside your ‘wallet’. For example, I might not want to leave a $100 bill or a credit card exposed in the Grab n Go Band. This could pose as a problem for some; however you could prevent this by putting an unimportant card in front your other more important items for privacy.
At times, it can be difficult to access cash or cards. Since the band has a rubbery feel, items tend to ‘stick’ to it, which makes it a bit difficult to slide cards out. At the same time, the rubbery feel also makes it harder for your cards to fall out. It usually requires two hands to access items from the band. You’ll need to hold your phone with one hand, and then gently pull the item out of the band to make sure that nothing else falls out.
The Verdict:
Though it might not completely replace your wallet, the Grab n Go band is a great option if you want to take just a few cards and some cash with you on a quick daytrip.
