Stay Stinkproof with Silver: ArgentPro Merino Wool Sock Review

I own four pairs of socks. Enough for a minimalist.

One of those socks is a REI merino wool pair that I took to travel around the world. My REI socks’ days are numbered. Recently, a hole appeared on the sole of one of the REI socks, which meant it was time to look for a replacement.

So, when Jonathan approached me and asked if I would like to review the unisex ArgentPro merino socks, I said yes immediately.

Today, I am reviewing a pair of grey medium sized ArgentPro merino wool socks.

Pros:

These are some of the shoes I’ve worn the socks with

According to ArgentPro’s descriptions some of their socks features include:

I wasn’t able to test the fungus and bacteria-killing properties, but I really liked the idea of having that extra protection from all those creepy crawlies found in hotel rooms, airplanes and TSA security check-in lines at the airports. Wouldn’t you?

Silver is historically known to have antimicrobial properties, and several studies have shown that silver can be used as an effective antimicrobial agent. Here are some scientific articles about that.

Cons:

What don’t I like about the ArgentPro merino socks?

Truthfully, I love this pair that I’m wearing. Some say $20 is expensive for a pair of socks. But when I compared it with the three pairs I dislike – one cute pair from Old Navy and two which I bought while visiting Seoul, Korea, I would say it isn’t expensive. I wouldn’t trade a comfortably snug fit pair of socks with a cheaper pair that slips and slides and is not warm enough for winter.

My only concern is, how long will the ArgentPro socks last? Will they last for 3 years like my REI merino socks? Time will tell. I’ve only worn the ArgentPro for a month.

The Verdict:

ArgentPro merino wool socks are definitely a practical pair of socks. Wearing the same pair of socks as mentioned earlier eliminates the need to own more. It helps if you like traveling light. Since it has built-in protection, there’s no need to wash your socks daily in the hotel bathroom sink.
