While looking for a new flash drive on Amazon yesterday I had a flashback to the first time I had gotten and used flash memory. I needed the flash drive for a school project. It was in 2007 when my mom and I walked into Staples and bought my first one gigabyte flash drive for $15. மீண்டும் நாளில், computers with floppy disk drives were still in use.

As I look back I noticed that flash memory has become so much cheaper than it was only 6 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு. On amazon.com as of 2/12/13 I can get a Kingston 16gb flash drive for $9.98. பிளஸ், it’s half the size of the one I got from Staples six years ago. That means that it currently costs about 0.63 cents per gigabyte of flash memory. 6 years ago I paid 24 times the price per gigabyte than I could have gotten today.

I find it almost alarming in a good way that now I can get 16 times more portable memory at 2/3s the price and at half the size, than I could not long ago. Imagine how much cheaper it will be 5 years from now.
