Unless you work in an office with awesome views (I worked at Hudson Yards and had amazing views of the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building everyday for free) or you own an apartment with equally awesome NYC views, you have a decision to make.

The Empire State Building, Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center and One World Observatory at the Freedom Tower are three of the most popular places to get the best view of NYC. The Empire State Building has been gracing the New York City skyline since the 1930s. It began construction in 1930 and its lights were officially switched on in 1931.

What You Can See from the Empire State Building

The Empire State Building is located in the center of Midtown Manhattan. There are two observatories on the 86th Floor and 102nd Floor. Both offer views of almost every New York City landmark like Central Park, ఫ్లటిరోన్ భవనం, Freedom Tower and Statue of Liberty (except the Empire State Building since you’re in it!)

The 86th Floor is an open air observatory and the 102nd Floor observatory offers the same view except slightly higher and enclosed with windows. There is also a 103rd Floor observatory only open by special request for heads of state from countries around the world, celebrities and social media related visits.

Additionally at the Empire State Building, you can see the lobby which has been restored to its 1930 design with Art Deco ceiling murals, museum galleries on the 2nd floor that shows the history of the building and several restaurants like STATE Grill and Bar on the street level (no view) open for breakfast, మధ్యాహ్న భోజనం, dinner and a bar.

All passes include entry to the 2nd Floor exhibitions. Note there is tax and convenience fee on top of each ticket price.

Rockefeller Center is named after its founder, John D. Rockefeller. He wanted to create a city within a city and in 1930 started constructing Rockefeller Center, which officially opened in 1933.

What You Can See from the Top of the Rock

Rockefeller Center is located in Midtown Manhattan and is home to several buildings containing retail stores, రెస్టారెంట్లు (including the Rainbow Room), offices, NBC Studios and Top of the Rock observation deck at 30 రాక్‌ఫెల్లర్ సెంటర్.

There are three observation decks including one on the 67th floor, 69th floor and 70th floor open air deck. Facing north of Manhattan, you’ll see the expanse of Central Park and to the south, a clear view of the Empire State Building.

There is also a Mezzanine Exhibit with artifacts and pictures to display the history of Rockefeller Center. And in the lobby is the Joie Chandelier, an impressive lighting fixture made by Swarovski with 14,000 crystals.

Price to Visit the Top of the Rock

  • Top of the Rock VIP Access (includes all three observation decks and expedited entry): $75 per Adult

  • You want to see the Empire State Building from above. The Top of the Rock view looks directly to the Empire State Building.
  • You want to pay slightly less. Prices for all Top of the Rock tickets are less than the Empire State Building’s prices.

One World Observatory is the newest NYC view on this list. Located inside One World Trade Center, also known as the Freedom Tower, it opened in May 2015.

What You Can See from One World Observatory

The Freedom Tower is located at the tip of Lower Manhattan. You’re allowed access to the 100, 101 and 102nd floor of the Freedom Tower. This is the highest building in the Western Hemisphere, so you can expect to see the whole of Manhattan, the bodies of water surrounding and Brooklyn, Queens and New Jersey. The Empire State Building is visible, though quite far compared to Top of the Rock.

Also at the observatory is the Sky Portal, ఒక 14 foot wide circular disc where you can look down 100 stories below. It is also home to a restaurant, ONE Dine and an Illy Caffe.

Price to Visit the One World Observatory

  • Standard General Admission: $35 per Adult 
  • Combination Admission (priority lanes for security, elevators and exit and One World Explorer digital guide): $45 per Adult
  • All-Inclusive Admission (priority lanes and flexible arrival – choose between a time frame either Morning, Afternoon or Evening instead of a specific time): $55 పెద్దలకు

  • You want to pay the least for a view. Standard tickets for One World Observatory are the lowest compared to the rest of the views listed here.

Tips for Visiting Either NYC View

  • If you want to see more than one might be worth getting an NYC tourist pass. తనిఖీ our guide to which NYC tourist pass you should get.
  • Check the weather before your visit: For One World Observatory, if there is zero visibility, they will give a voucher for you to re enter within 14 రోజులు. And similarly for Top of the Rock, in case of inclement weather, they will also reissue your ticket for another time and date. మరోవైపు, the Empire State Building just has a no refund policy.

So should I visit the Empire State Building, రాక్ లేదా వన్ వరల్డ్ అబ్జర్వేటరీ పైభాగం? 

It comes down to preference. But if you had to pick just one, I usually recommend Top of the Rock because you get to see the Empire State Building, an iconic NYC site, which you won’t be able to see from the building itself, and One World Observatory is a bit far from it.
