Bestek Travel Voltage Adapter Review

March 7, 2013 By Thither Staff

UPDATE:

**I had been using the Bestek Travel Adapter for a couple of months when I had reviewed it, however, the product broke about 6 months later. After plugging a hair dryer into the voltage adapter then plugging the voltage adapter into an outlet in Peru, it stopped working.**

The full name of this product is the Bestek Universal Travel Adapter and Power Converter

Product Number: MRJ301D

I got this on amazon.com for around 24 dollars with free shipping. I thought the price was ok.

A lot of the reviews on amazon.com for this product are negative, but I haven’t had any problems with my voltage converter.

What I like:

  • It is all in one
  • No little pieces
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Has USB outlet great for charging iPhones
  • It does it’s job fine

What I don’t:

  • Gets really hot when in use.
  • You can get shocked if not careful
  • Some products don’t need to be converted, just adapted, depending with the product. For example I checked on the apple store that my mac book air’s mag safe charger did not need to be converted, just adapted to the different prong. I would recommend for you to check if your electronics need to be converted or not before taking the chance of just plugging it in directly with a prong adapter.

If you want an adapter for the different prongs, and not a voltage converter you can get one for much cheaper on amazon, like this one for 3 dollars, here.

Here is a picture that I find helpful to figure out what the voltages are of the places that you are going to before you go:

Also this is a helpful website to figure out what countries use what prongs, just so that you can know what to buy ahead of time, here.

Overall I would recommend this product, but first find out if it actually fits your needs.
