I’m doing what you would call a ‘wardrobe update’ except not in the feminine way. More like, I’m getting new adventure gear to fuel my next travel related extreme experiences.
It’s all about switching out old clothes and gear for newer stuff, and embracing the minimalist lifestyle. I find it a bit ironic that I’m buying stuff to become a minimalist, but it works out somehow. My gear finding exploits have been relatively successful but as I’ve been bringing in new gear for our second leg of travel, I noticed I made a big mistake.
We all know that neutral colors are good for travelers. They are relatively low profile, easy to disguise stains and just plain practical. But then there’s an issue when you go overboard with neutral colors. As I looked over my virtually empty closet, I noticed a problem. I’m lacking color diversity.
As of 11/22/13, more than half of my shirts are either black or grey. My shoes, convertible pants, and jackets are black as well. If I keep this trend of buying black gear, I’ll end up with a completely black closet – even my backpack is black. I understand this isn’t a huge issue, but it is something that I’m taking into consideration.
When trying to buy travel specific things, it’s hard to avoid my dilemma. Most travel specific clothes only come in neutral colors; so there is basically no other choice. So my advice to all travelers who are bothered by lack of variety is this: be conscious of what color gear you are buying – or else you might end up with a dull wardrobe.
I’ll be looking out for some glow in the dark neon travel clothes for now on. I’m thinking hot pink is the way to go. (Not really) What are your thoughts? Leave your comment below.
