From stocking stuffers to big gifts, here are our top picks for the traveler in your life.
J. Crew Ludlow Topcoat, $450
The J. Crew Ludlow topcoat is one item worth packing, despite the bulk. It’ll keep you warm while looking sharp. It’s versatile too: pair it over a suit, or wear it casually with a long sleeve, chinos and sneakers. Made of Italian cashmere, this is one to pass down to the grandkids.
RYU Everywear Jogger, $125
Designed with the fitness user in mind, the Everywear Jogger allows for a full range of motion. It’s the perfect pair for squat day at the gym, or for a morning jog. But it’s not only for workouts. With a slim but comfortable cut and sleek aesthetic, these joggers aren’t your I’ve-given-up-on-life Champion joggers. The RYU Every Wear Jogger is perfect for a clean athleisure look or can be dressed up with a polo.
The joggers come in both a men’s version and a women’s version.
Vibram Furoshiki, $110
I thought the Keen Uneek shoes were unique until I saw these. The Furoshiki shoes by Vibram are travel-worthy and ultra-minimalist. Inspired by furoshiki, a type of traditional Japanese wrapping cloth, these shoes use a ‘wrapping’ closure unlike anything I’ve ever worn before.
These shoes are very lightweight and feel like you’re wearing a pair of socks, except with a flexible rubber sole. They’re perfect for a trip to the gym, yoga, or some short walks. The Furoshiki shoes won’t take up much space in your suitcase either. They can be rolled up and stuffed into their included stuff sack.
The Furoshikis are an acquired taste. Not everyone’s going to like the style, but there’s no denying they’re unique. They are unisex and come in sizes XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL.
ToughTested PRO Cables, $21
Apple’s been getting rid of all kinds of cables and ports lately, but one cable that remains is the Lightning connector. The only problem is Apple’s Lightning cables are notoriously fragile. From my own experience, my Apple Lightning cables always fray between the connector and the beginning of the wire. It’s annoying, costly and potentially hazardous.
There are other cables, though, made much better than the one included with your iPhone. The ToughTested PRO Lightning cable is MFI Certified, which basically means it does the same things as your default Lightning cable. You can use it to charge your phone, and also transfer data with it. The standout feature is by far the cable’s rugged build. These aren’t wimpy like the generic white ones. The cable is wrapped in a durable polymer jacket, making it abrasion resistant. And the tips of the cords are reinforced, meaning they won’t fray like your old ones.
Brompton Foldable Bike, $1500+
When it comes to foldable bikes, Brompton’s hand-made in London bikes are some of the top. Perfect for the urban commuter, the Brompton bike is large enough for a comfortable ride, yet easily folds to a size small enough to fit in a crowded subway car or in your closet.
