The debate between Eagle Creek packing cubes and eBags packing cubes is the travel gear version of “Mac vs PC” or “Xbox vs Playstation”. These two companies are the makers of the top 2 packing cubes on the market, so it’s only natural for someone to wonder which type is better.

Since I own both brands of packing cubes, I’ve decided to compare them head to head to see which company makes the better packing cubes. Here we go:
Please note that when I mention Eagle Creek packing cubes, I am referring to their classic cubes, not the “Specter” series. The Specter cubes are lighter weight but a bit less durable than the normal cubes.
Durability:
I’ve been using both eBags packing cubes and Eagle Creek packing cubes for over 2 years. They’ve gone to 14+ countries and have been put through the wringer. The overall construction of the Eagle Creek packing cube is thicker and more durable than the eBags cubes. If you look closely at the seams of both types of cubes, you will see that the seams in the Eagle Creek are more robust and they have proven to be while traveling.
Winner: Eagle Creek Packing Cubes
Design:
The designs of both packing cubes are almost exactly the same. Both are made of nylon, both have a mesh area in the front to see the contents inside the cube and both have handles at the top.
Eagle Creek packing cubes have a more defined cube shape, as they are thicker than their eBags counterparts, and their edges are somewhat stiff. This however makes Eagle Creek packing cubes a tad bit heavier than the eBags cubes. Regardless of the added weight, I still feel that the Eagle Creek cubes win the design round as well.

Value:

- The 3 piece set of Eagle Creek packing cubes cost $26.50
While set of Eagle Creek cubes is cheaper, the cubes are smaller than those in the eBags cube set. With that said, the value of the cubes is equal.
Winner: Tie
The Verdict:
This is a really close one, but I’m going to say that the Eagle Creek packing cubes narrowly edge the eBags ones because of their better durability and design. I like how the Eagle Creek cubes have a more defined “cube” like shape, making them less like a zippered blob and easier to pack.
There’s something about the Eagle Creek cubes that feels better, as if they were made with more love.

i use the new style eagle creek packing cubes and they suck. the zipper died after 3 trips and keep being struck in the clothes. annoying. they dont look like yours at all.

Sad to hear about your cubes. I think you mean the Specter cubes as the new ones, and the classic cubes as the old ones, right?
The Specters are lighter weight than the classic cubes, made of different materials, but I think the zippers are the same.
I have heard a lot of great things about Eagle Creek. They are a really progressive company and their products are quite different then Ebags (from fabric to function).
